Solana Pay just took the ecosystem by storm by integrating their product with @Shopify.
I’ll keep this one short and answer your question:
"Why does this matter?"
Payments
Payments are crucial to adoption. Thankfully, this is a niche Solana excels in. I won't go into stats. We all know what Solana does... If you don’t, read this The TL;DR is that Solana isn’t the “Ethereum” killer… Payments are. So, doubling down here just makes sense.
Fees
Currently, credit card fees cost anywhere from "1.5% - 3.5%" per transaction. That doesn’t sound like much… but if you really think about it, those fees will add up over time. Solana’s transaction fees are virtually free. This is an edge you can’t exactly ignore.
Accessibility
As payment options become more globally accessible, opportunities emerge for new consumers. The fact that items are now easily purchase with USDC opens up new doors of revenue for both Shopify and Solana.
Marketing
"Shopify accounts for 10% of ALL US e-commerce and $444 billion worth of global economic activity." As Solana continues to scale alongside Shopify multi-billion-dollar industry, at some point, the marketing will do itself.
Personally, I’m excited. My team (Bad Environment Club) is already looking into ways to explore and utilize this new feature. To me, this is what the future of payments and commerce looks like.
Shoutout and congrats to the team at Solana Pay.
If the Solana Pay team could pull this off in a bear, the dominoes should continue to fall in the right places. — Lite.
