One day you’re going to die.
You know this already, but you keep those thoughts locked away in the attic of your mind. You’ve decorated it with thin cobwebs, lacing the room with darkness. The air is stiff and humid, but there is no scent. This is how it always is.
But today, you don’t get to gloss over that sentence.
Today… we will think about it.
One day you’re going to die.
You’ll have a funeral. People will cry. Then they will leave.
Some of your closest friends may not even make it because *(insert excuse here)*… and honestly, the the whole world will move on.
If this offends you, life doesn’t care.
At some point you’ll become content with this. It’s not a good or a bad thing. It’s just life. But if we all die one day, what’s the point?
Does anything we do even matter?
1: 400,000,000,000,000
One in 400 trillion: Those are the odds of being born.
“The odds of claiming the jackpot in a Powerball drawing are 1 in 292.2 million.”
You won the lottery. Times one million. You beat the rest. It wasn’t a race; the egg chose you. You’re one of the luckiest bastards to ever do it. You made it.
These facts may mean nothing to you, since the thought alone is too incomprehensible for any one person to truly grasp — And in all honesty, I’m not here to convince you of anything.
Logically, you already know that life is incredibly rare. You know you only get one shot; and there are no do-overs. It comes fast and leaves faster.
Yet you continue to let it pass you by.
I’ve always hated the concept of wasted time. But I hate the idea of floating through life even more.
Life Is Meant To Be Lived
Life is complex. But if you think about it, it’s also pretty damn simple.
The truth is that life is meant to be lived.
It’s not a race. It’s not about who has the most money, or the fanciest house. It’s not about consumerism or the material toys or drugs we buy to numb our pain.
It’s not about hiding from yourself.
Maybe there is no real point or concrete answer.
But that doesn’t justify floating.
Your future self would kill for another chance. Small tidbits of wasted time compounded into an uncontrollable force that left them contemplating every last decision they made. Every last second of wasted time.
The present you may not understand the gravity of it all yet. But the future you is haunted by the revelation. The future you knows all too well.
For me, life is about experiences.
I like watching the sunset, walking down strange paths and turning dynamic thought into things I deem meaningful. I like pushing the boundaries of who I am, and shattering the conceptions people have of me.
That’s me. What about you?
Look.
You don’t have to cherish your life just because some anon blogger on the internet said so. But you should consider it.
Earlier I said you were lucky. I take that back.
You’re not lucky, because this was no accident — You were destined to be here.
Consider tapping into your unique potential and making the most of it. I hope you do. But the choice is not mine to make.
It lies with you. — Lite.
Yes, this is spoken like someone with maturity. You know 20 odd years ago someone my current age said to me 'youth is wasted on the young' , with the view of looking back at these wasted opportunities. I didn't get it then but I do now. Life is for living and being grateful for what you have, great article.
Bro is gonna inspire me to make it happen 🔥
